Hello! I'm Iris
I'm a games designer, artist, avid jelly-eater, and have been known to enjoy kicking a ball or two (sometimes...). I live in Melbourne and finished a bachelors degree of Games Design at RMIT in 2016.
All my life, I'd wanted to be like everyone else and struggled to accept that I was my own unique being. During high school, I was told that I would be great for architecture and convinced myself that it was probably what I wanted to do. I got into a pretty broad arts degree and quickly realised how bad I was at following rules and keeping inside the boundaries; so naturally I dropped out. During this time, I became fascinated by the concept of design that was intentionally created to look bad. So I thought I'd give design one last try and enrolled for Games Design just cause the course looked hella fun. soothing farts was a fake brand I made for myself during my second year of uni when I told myself I'd grow up to be someone I wanted to be and someone whom people would one day think was cool.
Spoiler alert: I'm still not cool.
After finishing uni, I reached a fork in my life; try land a job in my field or keep studying. I chose neither. Instead, I've decided to bulldoze my own path. All that studying just to end up doing what I'm doing today. My parents questioned my decisions and still don't really quite understand what I'm doing, but I've decided to go ahead and disappoint them anyway. RIP Family Business. I landed in the weird freelance world and through that have rediscovered my love of drawing quick and simple designs that humour mainly myself.
Everything I do on this website is a personal reflection to not only you as the audience, but also to myself. I'm constantly trying to be a better me and I never want to stop being amazed by the world around me.
TLDR: Hello! I'm Iris. I studied Games Design at RMIT. I'm an artist/designer with a deep love for the deliberately sloppy aesthetic, can you tell?
