This month has been an interesting month for me. Releasing the sweaters at the start of the month and doing a proper release of the website again felt like something that had been on the back seat for so long, so to see it all finally happening felt a little strange to be honest. These past three months have been bombarded with new games and sadly, I've only played a few of them due to the lack of time (and my obvious dedication to FFXIV...). From some beautiful remasters to highly anticipated sequels to even odd spin-offs (I'm looking at you Detective Pikachu), 2018 has graced us with some pretty good ones so far.
I've been playing Monster Hunter and Ni No Kuni II lately, and both titles have been too good to me. Monster Hunter was such a breath of fresh air to me. I understand that MH is not a game for everyone and to some, the game can even be a bit mentally draining. But as an excessive grinder, this game was everything I needed. As someone who likes to overly plan in video games and often gets distracted during the actual game itself, MH made all of that actually a viable tactic.
MH also has another thing going for it which I absolutely adore, the world could exist without you. There's just something so attractive about a game world that doesn't revolve around the player. I'm not talking about the storyline of the game, just game mechanics which allow movement within the game that isn't triggered by the player themselves. It's something that I've always loved about the series. But this game isn't for everyone. Remember that.
Bringing back something I mentioned above, Detective Pikachu. I'm curious enough to wonder whether or not it's a title worth picking up. I've played basically all their titles and this one stands out to me. From the trailer, it looks nothing like the feel and emotion Pokemon has developed over many years. Can Pokemon really pull off a serious toned point and click adventure title? Reviews certainly says it can. So I guess I'll just have to check it out.
